All three siblings — Shahzen (20), Zenrookh (16) and Zeshah (11) — of the Davar family are athletes and are looking to make it big. The youngest of the three, Zeshah (Christ Church, Byculla), hogged the limelight in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-Mumbai Indians inter-school athletics by setting a record in the U-12 shot put with a a distance of 10.54m at Goregaon Sports Club yesterday.
Zeshah bettered Feroza Engineer of St Gregorios High School’s (Chembur) mark of 10.21m set in 2010. Shloka Sajdeh of St Anne’s School (Fort) finished second (8.86m) while Vaishnavi Singh of Rustomjee International was third (8.19m).
Zeshah attributed her success to elder sister Zenrookh. The 11-year-old said that it was her sister’s perseverance that inspired her to take up athletics.
“For me, my sister Zenrookh, who is also a national level shot put and javelin thrower, is a role model.
I used to accompany her to Rustom Baug (Byculla) and my coach Dara Dumasia saw me playing with the shot put ball. After that, there was no looking back. I always used to come first but today was special as I set a meet record,” Zeshah said.
The Parel resident said her parents Shahrukh (father) and Zenobia (mother) are never opposed to her participating in more events as long she gets good grades in school.
“It’s been routine for us for more than a decade now. Earlier, we used to take Shahzen to Rustom Baug, then even Zenrookh started accompanying her brother. Now the younger one too has followed suit. Zeshah has made me a proud father today,” said Shahrukh.
