I waited at Mahim signal impatiently for five minutes... six minutes... seven mins... At last, there he was. (He had promised to pick me from there) - I met a star for the first time who was just seven minutes late. He picked me up and we began the interview in his car.
This guy who has passed out of HR just recently, has a certain glow on his face as he talks about his college days - guess the memories have still not been marred by the harsh lights of filmdom. No nakhras, no attitude - here's the 'Mast' guy's mastibhari memories of his HR days.
Aftab, why did you select HR?
I selected HR for 3 reasons. 1st of all it is a very reputed college. 2nd, I wanted to do Commerce. 3rd because it was very close to my residence.
What sort of a student were you?
I was a first class student all my life. I scored 70% in SSC, 65 in HSC and in early 60s in my TY.
Where would you hangout?
I used to eat the dosas outside HR but not exactly hangout there. Hanging out was always at CCI.
What was your friend circle like?
I had just 4 good friends named Amit, Ajay, Dhawal & Mike. I didn't have any girlfriends.
How often would you bunk?
Not too often. I was somewhere in between with 50% attendance. I took it easy. I was blacklisted just once - in my first year.
Any Girlfriends?
I had two relationships in college - one with a girl from my college and the other with a girl of another college. Both lasted for around five months each.
Did you participate in sports?
Yes , I love sports, fitness, music... I used to play a lot during school and college. I played cricket and badminton for college. I played snooker at the state level and badminton and cricket at the club level. I enjoy squash and table tennis too.
Any special day in college?
My 1st day in college... I was ragged. I was asked to do 10 sit-ups and I did it. It was embarrassing but it was fun at the same time. Actually it was my friends who were ragging me.
Your best professor and subject?
Our Principal, Prof Ajwani. He taught me travel and tourism, which is a lovely subject and my favourite too.
Your best year in college?
TY. It's the most serious year.. but still you have maximum fun in your TY. You cherish every day in college during your last year.
What about the Friendship Day, Chocolate Day... ?
I never participated in any of 'the' days. We had a few of them (ribbons and chocolates) but my friends and I used to never bother. I think the only day I did celebrate was the friendship day in the 1st year of college.
The best thing about HR?
The best thing I liked about my college is that it was just six buildings away from my house. So, I could come and go any time. In between I used to go to CCI play snooker and come back and do all sorts of things.
Aftab in one line: Any other ordinary guy who has to work for his living, who is here in the industry & wants to make it big here, I'm no special guy
