After four decades of working as a photographer, I am less certain now than when I began, of what a photographer should be, nor do I care in the strictly academic sense.
I think the need to create a definition is inhibiting.  I am absolutely sure of one thing, I know what needs to be shown.

I wouldn’t pass photographing Ahmedabad for anything.  I grew up in the city and have seen it change from a small, friendly, very cultured city to a huge, messy, ‘cultured’ friendly city, bursting on every end of it, trying to come to terms with the old and the new.  The city continues to nurture excellence in arts and education, fascist thoughts and the most creative ideas, side by side. ‘Change is the only permanent thing in life’ is truer in Ahmedabad, this city of flux than anywhere else.
