The second International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony will be held in the picturesque Sun City on June 16. With the growing fan following for Bollywood movies in this South African city the venue couldn't have been better. The nominations for the award were announced by Kabir Bedi yesterday at a press conference which was attended by Ramesh Sippy and Kunal Dasgupta of Sony TV and the sponsors. The nominations are based on box-office ratings and the film industry voting.
Mohabbatein, Refugee, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Dhadkan, Fiza... are vying for the 13 popular awards. The final winners will be chosen by the janata of the world via the Internet with Pricewaterhouse Coopers (the agency which has been handling the Oscar balloting since 1935) keeping a close watch on the tabulations.
This year promises to be spectacular with Hrithik, Karisma, Urmila, Taz (Stereo Nation) and the African Footprints performing. Back home you can catch it live on Sony TV. Meanwhile, log on to www.msn.co.in/iifa.asp and cast your vote, the closing date is June 10.
Last year's show saw Bollywood biggies rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars like Jackie Chan and Angelina Jolie. Wonder who it is this year?
