CROWNING GLORY: Anu Malik and Dev AnandMusic director Anu Malik has fulfilled his dream of working with Dev Anand. The evergreen actor-director has signed Malik for his latest project Beauty Queen.
Confirming the news, Malik says, I have always had the highest regards for Devsaab. He had approached me once, but because of other commitments, I couldnt do the film. This time, I couldnt say no.
Malik says he has grown up humming the tunes of S D Burman, Jaidev and R D Burman in Dev Anands films. Why only me? Even my father used to hum those tunes. They sound fresh even today. I cant dream of coming anywhere close to those composers, but theyve all been my biggest inspirations. So I shall try hard to create simple and great melodies, he says.
The cast of Navketan International Films Beauty Queen hasnt been finalised, and Malik says Sameer is being approached for the lyrics.
Besides Beauty Queen, Malik is also looking forward to Gurinder Chadhas Bride And Prejudice, Ken Ghoshs Fidaa, Anil Sharmas Ab Tumhare Hawaale Watan Saathiyon (where he has composed a 21-minute song), Nitin Manmohans Tango Charlie and Vikram Bhatts Elaan, among others.
His music in the Madhur Bhandarkar-directed Aan has just been released, and he is waiting for the release of Farah Khans Main Hoon Naa this week.
The response to the music of both Main Hoon Naa and Murder has been good. The Munnabhai MBBS music picked up after the film clicked. Now, with Devsaabs film also coming in, I am feeling great, he says.
