All that an official spokesperson from Coca Cola is willing to say is, The matter is sub-judice and will be dealt in court.
The case is expected to come up for hearing today. Shetty had signed up for the Thumbs Up endorsement a few years ago.
According to sources close to Shetty, four years ago the contract expired but the Coke guys didnt stop using his face to endorse their products on billboards and hoardings despite his repeated requests to stop doing it. In these four years Shettys grouse is he has not been paid any royalty by Coke nor has his contract been renewed.
Incidentally, the Shettys (Sunil Shettys community) own about 13,000 to 14,000 restaurants all over Maharashtra which use Coca Colas aerated drinks. They are a close-knit community who stand by their brethren in time of need.
And, more so ,because Shetty is their blue-eyed boy has always stood by them in their time of need. If they decide to support Shetty in his action and ban their products, one wonders what steps Coca Cola will take?
