I cant afford my own clothes

We all know that couture is expensive. Its indulgent and lavish, but for the most part (in our country anyway), it is what feeds our designers (prt isnt money-making yet).

And proving just how expensive couture is, Suneet Varma jokingly admitted after showing his splendid prt/diffusion collection, that he wouldnt be able to afford his own couture.

Varmas ready-to-wear collection was fun, flirty, feminine but slightly militant which according to him describes the urban woman, Very Sex and the City. He adds, I feel indulgent and happy this year and it reflects in my clothes.

But one of the nicest things about his collection was the price between Rs 800 and Rs 2,800. We just hope other designers are taking notes. This really is the best way to make high-fashion accessible.

Idol worship

Some members of the Indian cricket team seem to have put the Pakistan series debacle behind them. Last night, we saw Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan (looking incredibly hot, may we add) and Mohammed Kaif, dressed in Shantanu and Nikhil, walk the ramp as part of the Samsung sponsored show to launch the Samsung D500.

And to add more drama to the event, Indian idol Abhijeet Sawant sang Mohabbatein Lutaoonga to Sehwag and his wife Aarti (who was sitting in the audience) to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Designers Manish Arora, Nandita Basu, Nikhil and Shantanu, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna and Rina Dhaka also showed their collections with their models flaunting the new Samsung cell phones.

Ranna of the mill

A little birdie told us that a tarot card reader gave Ranna Gill inputs for her collection. Makes sense considering Gill displayed a collection inspired by the Indian gypsy.

We just wish she had gone a little beyond that look, considering Indian clothing in the west is already associated with the gypsy look.

It just seems like she took the easy way out and played into the stereotype.

To her credit though, the collection was rather chic and stylish with fun, bright skirts, tiered dresses and tie-n-dye prints.

HAIR-RAISING FASHION: Models display Ashish and Smita Soni designs yesterdayFashion crosses borders

First the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus, then the IndoPak cricket series and now fashion. Taking heed from the current peace process, ARY One will beam India Fashion Week live to Pakistan and the Middle-East.

The Dubai-based business house has also given all Indian designers an open invitation to set up shop in Pakistan. And whats more, they will foot the entire bill to set up operations.

But will the country be open to the more risqu designs of the likes of Manish Arora, Rina Dhaka, Malini Ramani? Lets hope so.

Clubbing fun and fashion

And speaking of inspirations, we hear that Rahul Khanna and Rohit Gandhis line was conceptualised at a nightclub in Dubai. Apparently the chandeliers in the club inspired them.

The collection had lots of textured velvets, sequined lace, and embellished satins. And for what its worth, the collection was fantastic one of the best weve seen so far.

Even model Sonalika Sahay, who has walked the ramp for a lot of the shows in the past two days, seemed to agree, Cue was my favourite collection. It was a lot of fun to wear and the clothes were great. So we should have the one whos tried the clothes on first, have the last say.

Not to worry, Sonali will be back in a few days with her daily dose of society gup
