Mumbai:  Oscar panel chief Mark Johnson phoned to say he likes TZP! Does that ensure a nomination?
Exactly a month from today, the Oscar committee will announce the nominations for the Academy awards.
India's official entry is Taare Zameen Par. After a special viewing of Aamir Khan's directorial debut recently, the chairman of the Oscar panel, Hollywood producer Mark Johnson, called the B-town star to congratulate him for making such a film.
Says Aamir, "I am happy that TZP is going to represent India and going by the response so far, I am very content with it too. Mark Johnson is a very big name in Hollywood. He has made films like Chronicles of Narnia and Rain Man. He called me the other day saying that he has seen TZP and has loved it.
I am told that even a large number of the committee members seem to be liking it. I had met Mark when Lagaan had bagged the nomination in the Best Foreign Film category and had spoken to him for over an hour about cinema. But after that meeting, we lost touch after all these years."
Aamir adds, "This doesn't mean anything but at least it was great on Mark's part to get my number and call me. He obviously likes the film enough to make the phone call! So far so good. Let's see if we secure a nomination on January 22."
