As reported ('It's not a tale of one battered wife'; HiTLIST, June 26) Zinta's character goes through various emotional ups and downs after marrying a Canadian NRI.
This paper has got their hands on the full bonded script of Heaven On Earth and the entire climax is on Zinta's character battling it out with her in-laws and her husband, and how the king cobra, which lives in their backyard, comes to her rescue.
Trying time
A source from the unit reveals, "When she read the script, Preity was very excited about playing Chand, but as the shoot progressed getting into the skin of the character became trying. The fact that the plot and the dialogues don't take the conventional route was a bigger challenge.
The shooting of the climax sequence was an ordeal for the cast as well as the crew. Anyone doing such a demanding role would have lost the common sense of things but Preity kept her cool and behaved like a professional."
It is unconfirmed but there have been reports that after the shooting, Preity spoke with a therapist to help her deal with the trauma of essaying such a difficult role.
| Excepts from the script |
| Chand: Since coming to Canada, I have held by this hand, only two... Rocky: (triumphantly) There, she admits it. Two she says. Two! Who are they? Chand: My husband and... Rocky: And⦠who else? Spit it out. Chand: And this cobra. Suddenly words pour out from Chand's mouth Chand: (cont'd) Yes, my husband and this King Cobra. Except for these two, I have not touched any adult of the male sex. Nor have I allowed any other male to touch me. If I am lying, let the cobra bite me. Her surprise at not being bitten turns into triumph as the King Cobra slides up her shoulder and spread his hood like an umbrella over her head. The family gasps. The cobra sways over her head and then glides around her neck like a garland. There is a glow around Chand and the snake. |
