India:

Dostana director gets T-shirt at GayBombay trial

Tarun Mansukhani, the director of Dostana, is thrilled with the response he got at the GayBombay trial held on Monday evening. In fact, the members even gifted him a T-shirt that reads 'Ban Article 377' as a token of their appreciation.

Tarun recalls his personal experience of meeting the group. "It was touching to meet this guy who came out to his sister after watching the movie. It was overwhelming to see a mother attend the trial and support her gay son and his boyfriend who live abroad. I think that it was important we held this trial and am glad everyone had a good time," says the director.

When asked how it felt about getting a special t-shirt from the gay community he says, "It felt like a token of approval from them. It means a lot to me when people react positively to the scene where the mother accepts the son for being gay. It opens doors and creates situations where people can come out in the open and talk about their sexualities. I will definitely cherish the shirt they've given me."

Vikram Doctor, a senior member of GayBombay, who attended the trial says, "It was a fun experience watching the film. It was definitely entertaining and not too serious. Everyone was in great spirits and we gave him a T-shirt that talked about doing away with article 377."
