Topi pehna diya sabko! Anil Kapoor with Subhash Ghai
Subhash Ghai has a penchant for caps. The director has dressed up several of his actors in beret caps and hats through out his career.

Beret boys

The latest actors to sport a cap in his film are Salman and Zayed who wear them in Yuvvraaj. The actors wear  beret caps similar to those worn by Shah Rukh, Anil Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna in Ghai's previous films.

A source reveals that Ghai considers these caps to be a symbol of luck for him. "For him, the clothes and accessories say a lot about the character and he pays attention to the minute details as well. He has been dressing up his actors in caps and hats right from the Ram Lakhan days. In fact, it was only in Kisna that he didn't have Vivek Oberoi wear any cap."

Changing an image

When contacted, Ghai confirms his affection towards caps and says, "Yes, I love caps and hats. It makes my stars look cute endearing, innocent and deeply in love. It reduces the regular hot image of a star face. But I only use them when the situation arises, like the cap on Anil in Ram Lakhan. Costumes speak the mood of the character in a situation and so do these caps. Even I wear caps to basically pretend to be the big boss!" Does he consider them to be his lucky charms? "No, I don't believe in that."
