Mission Reunion
By: Subhash K Jha

Mumbai:

Mission Istaanbul might not have worked at the box-office. But that isn't stopping director Apoorva Lakhia from
re-uniting with actor Zayed Khan.

The actor will star in Apoorva Lakhia's new film to be produced by Sa Re Ga Ma (HMV).

Alag take

The film is a remake of a Hollywood gangster epic released about a decade ago about a father and son's journey through a series of adventures. "HMV is right now in final stages of negotiations with the American producers of that film. So I wouldn't like to reveal the title. But yes, it's a very different and unusual take on gangsters," informs Lakhia.

Copycat

Interestingly, Lakhia did an almost frame-by-frame remake of  Denzel Washington thriller Man On Fire (Ek Ajnabee) with the Big B three years ago without bothering about copyrights.

Doing it right

Says Lakhia, "Times have changed. Warner Brothers, for example, is letting Indian filmmakers do remakes of their films while remaining co-producers on the adapted projects. I think Nikhil Advani is co-producing a desi version of Warner's Wedding Crashers directed by David Dhawan. We'd like to buy the remake rights outright for the American film that I'm planning to remake."

Earlier this week Lakhia flew down to Bangkok to narrate the script to Zayed.
