Seeing the critical response to her performance in her first Bengali film Shobh Charitra Kalponik, Bipasha Basu patched up with director Rituparno Ghosh over the dubbing issue.
She is now flying to Kolkata to dub one print under Ritu's supervision, so that her performance can be eligible for the National Film Awards!

We were busy Says Bipasha, "Ritu is very particular about dubbing. I was willing to do it under his supervision in Mumbai. But he was busy and so was I. Whatever may have been the reasons for my not dubbing, but I am now going to Kolkata in October to dub my own lines. I'd have gone earlier. But he was busy with another film."
Says Bipasha, "I spoke to Ritu after the film's release. We're both happy with the way it has been received. The performance just happened. All those breakdown scenes were done in an easy, relaxed atmosphere. Ritu would make faces over my mannerisms. Then I'd re-adjust my body language and expression. I know it's a very special film. The Bengali media has been very kind. But my voice being dubbed has been noticed."
While Rituparno maintains Bipasha not dubbing her voice is not indicative of her abilities Mahesh Ramanathan of Reliance Big Pictures states it was clearly a creative decision. "The director felt Bipasha's voice needed to be trained in the Bengali that he wanted to direct," says Ramanthan.
Says Bipasha, "Whatever it was, it was dubbed by another voice. All my aunties in Kolkata missed my voice!" |
