UTV wants to cut abuses out of Kaminey; seeks a 'U/A' certificate

Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey, starring Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra, is reportedly crammed with expletives. The title is, perhaps, a prelude to what one can expect in the film.

According to insiders, the film has scenes where abuses are hurled by a group of people at Shahid. "The scene is quite stark and brutal.

Vishal is of the opinion that the abuses and the bold language were required to make the point in the scene. However, UTV (the producers) beg to differ and have asked Vishal to dub the expletives or cut them out.

We want no restrictions

The source adds, "The producers want a  'U/A' certificate for the film and are worried that the expletives used might get them an 'A' rating. Omkara got an 'A' certificate primarily because of the film's colourful language.

Also, since Kaminey is more of a romantic comedy with an hint of the thriller element, the producers don't want to restrict audiences with an 'adults only' rating."

Another reason to cut down on the abuses is Shahid's image. "He's very popular with the youngsters and kids. With Kaminey, he undergoes a total image makeover; that's a drastic enough change for his fans.

The production house feels that his fans will not be able to accept Kapoor mouthing gaalis."

When contacted Shika Kapur, VP, Motion Pictures, UTV said, "It's too early to speculate about what certificate the film would get, but I can assure you that there isn't any such sort of discussion happening for the moment.

Kaminey has turned out really well and the film has various shades of emotions, but it definitely isn't an adult film.

Vishal has made a wholesome entertainer, and it has no comparisons to the tone or mood of Omkara."
Kaminey will release on June 5.

Mohit Suri snipped out the abuses and foul language in a scene with Kangana after getting negative reaction from the audience in the morning shows. The scene was made shorter and the gaalis were removed.
