It's been a terrifying time! Last week's serial blasts dominate all our conversations and emails. But what many don't know is that terrorists use the Web openly to share their ideologies. They develop their own Websites and incite people to join their 'cause'.
The outsider
Jehad Fields (http://jihadfields.wordpress.com) is one such website. It documents terrorist activities from across the world. The latest post says: "We live in a world dominated by man made law with the authority in the hands of the kuffar, we find millions of Muslims residing in the lands of the kuffar having homes, businesses and families."
The blog promotes rebellion against governments, and condemns Muslims who work for non-Islamic governments. "The common misconception is that it is these governments in the western world that are providing for us our sustenance and allowing us to reside in their lands peacefully and hence we should therefore reciprocally befriend them and treat them with courteousness. At the same time living and interacting with the kuffar on a daily basis, the Muslims have begun to befriend them," the post says.
"...We also begin to see Muslims taking positions within these governments believing that what they are doing is for the benefit of the Muslims," the tirade continues.
Hatred on sites
Social networking sites like Orkut are also famous for attracting those who think it's 'cool' to be jihadis.
Communities on these sites contain derogatory comments about various countries and spread hatred.
On Facebook, key in 'mujahideen' and see the number of results you get. There are groups like Mujahideen (at least five), Mujahideen Who Are Up For Jihad, and Islamic Mujahideen, to name a few.
Where are they?
Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, director-general of police, Corps of Detectives, said, "We are often not aware of the websites. We don't monitor the web as such, but whenever we get a case, we investigate. However, even though we are not investigating the blast case, we are assisting the police by scouring the Internet for leads."
While a lot of these sites have been shut down or blocked, many are untraceable because the servers are located abroad.
The Al Qaeda Website has been blocked many times but keeps resurfacing. Police say the only way to tackle this form of electronic terrorism is to ignore them. One of the primary concerns of these terrorists is to provoke people to violence, and their attempts are foiled if they get no reaction.
