'I prefer running around trees'
By: L Romal M Singh

Bangalore:

Just being me: Sudeep

He's good looking, he's hot and he's right now THE most happening star in Kannada cinema.

Meet Sudeep, now officially the face of Kannada films in Bollywood, fresh from completing his next release RGV's Phoonk.

We caught up with him at the film's launch in the city and chit chatted about his only passion Movies. Sudeep got upclose and personal as he told us stuff we'd never expected to hear...

"As an actor, I think it was wonderful to work with such hi-tech equipment. This is only because of the budgets Bollywood has and the markets they have. They can afford to spend that much!

The experience of working with RGV was amazing! Working in that atmosphere of professionalism is mind-blowing, because everyone is focused on their job. They come, they do their work and they get the hell out of there.

Nothing's carried back home, not even a mobile number. I think it's fine there. But personally if you ask me, I think it's pathetic!

Everytime I shot, I got back to an empty room, and the corridor that I walked down became longer by the day. The experience of working there and being alone were definitely bad."

(I interrupt to ask him if he prefers such serious roles to his normal run-around-the-tree-romantics, an he surprised me by very frankly saying...)

"I prefer running around trees because it makes my life very easy. I am not expected to jump from any building or perform any such stunt it's just running. But the sad part is that we don't really get anything behind the tree (laughs).

This was definitely not a launch, and I don't really think I want a launch in Hindi. It was a challenge and an opportunity, so I decided to take it on. My silence has often been looked upon as arrogance in the Kannada industry. But there, people were quite impressed by it.

Why I agreed to do such a role is as hard a question to answer as why I had done many of my previous roles.

Do you think I associate myself with a rowdy, or a bad cop, or a pervert who desires his sister-in-law?

No way, these are just roles and I take them on because I believe in the script.

I believe in nothing else but myself. I trust my inner self, so when I think it's okay with me, I'd go to any limit to make that role happen.

I love good films, but I am a very good critic too. That is why I would never want to watch anyone else's film in the Kannada industry. I'd obviously notice the mistakes more than the good work and hope deep down that the film doesn't do all that well. But that's just me. I have learnt to except myself as I am, and to live with it."
