Want to turn women on? You need text appeal
By: Bhairavi Jhaveri

Mumbai:

While women may ponder before sending out the "perfect" or rather, "apt" message, men are overtly spontaneous, and hit the "send" button a little too soon. Men may not wonder why a girl hasn't replied instantly, but women will consider it a "goof up" if a guy forgets to reply, and will demand an explanation.

Women think men vie for the "upper hand" via SMS, but frankly, men have no idea that women even mull over those five words for so long. And, they have no idea that a woman could turn down a second date if the SMSes she's received border on too flirty, dirty, inappropriate, or dull!

An SMS is an insight into his personality: Women

Nagma Khatri, 23, Business Executive for Madison Outdoor Media Solutions

I get ticked off when a guy takes ages to reply to my message

Picks: Bond + Wordsworth
Because: I like romantic and poetic messages once in a while; they can be a pleasant surprise. But, on a daily basis, the Bond style seems most practical, since everyone's fighting for time.
Messaging memoirs: I am forgiving of messaging errors.
I don't like playing games on SMS: I don't like flirting on SMS, either.

Aarti Madan, 23, Trainee in an ad agency

Guys who use abbreviations are wannabes

Picks: Russell Brand
Because: Witty messages are a relief from clichéd, and overtly direct lines.
Messaging memoirs: I dislike guys who spell cool with a "k". Such wannabes!
But, I prefer a guy calling VS messaging: Since, it's easier to reject or accept, instead of playing games
via SMS.

Dhara Sanghavi, 21, Interior designer

Spelling errors in simple words put me off

Picks: Bond
Because: I tend to run away from guys who make it apparent that they are after me. With the Bond style, the chase would be fun.
Messaging memoirs: Spelling errors in common words are a big turn off.
I prefer long SMSes: Also, messaging as a communication medium allows you to think before you express yourself.

What's the fuss about? Guys are clueless

Nachiket Sant, 25, Account Supervisor at an ad agency

Did you know women judge men on their SMSing style? I had no idea.
Do you ruminate before sending an SMS? No, it's spontaneous.
Your SMS style: Russell Brand witty, intelligent, and humourous one-liners.
SMS confession: I prefer short messages that may not always communicate everything you have on your mind at once. Miscommunication is often enjoyable.

Madhav Joshi, 27, Account Director at an ad agency

Did you know women judge men on their SMSing style? No.
Do you ruminate before sending an SMS? Never.
Your SMS style: Russell Brand quirky, humourous and bold.
SMS confession: I don't care if a girl is judging me on my SMS style. I make sure my messages provoke a girl, so that she says, "I can't believe you just said that!" I enjoy putting women in a spot.

Yudhishtir Urs, Actor

Did you know women judge men on their SMSing style? No.
Do you ruminate before sending an SMS? I measure my words if I want to make
an impression.
Your SMS style: Clear, simple and honest.
SMS confession: I never use abbreviations, and I try to keep my communication as black and white so that a girl doesn't need to read between the lines.
