Is your perfume you?
By: Sheena Thomas

Mumbai:

Step into any fragrance store and you will be enveloped by different fragrances, and at least a dozen salesmen trying to convince you that their fragrance is THE ONE for you. So, we suggest you follow our tips, just so that you don't get conned into buying yet another perfume that isn't you:

* For starters, remember that a sexy perfume is not going to turn you into a diva, no matter what the beauty magazines tell you. And the perfume that your colleague wears is not necessarily going to be YOU. So when you go shopping, drop all the brand names that have been slumbering in your head and please don't let the beauty consultant force his brand of perfume down your throat.

*
"Figure out your motivation for wearing perfume and the occasion when you'll be using it," says Lippi Lal, training manager, Baccarose. You need to know whether you are going to be wearing it everyday, or only at special occasions say a wedding, or to seduce someone. Once you have that sorted, you can choose a fragrance accordingly.

* Tell the beauty consultant about your preference, and ensure that s/he doesn't show you more than three fragrances, suggests Lippi. It is going to be an ordeal selecting from anything more than that. And do remember to try the lightest first (on the blotter) and then move to the strongest.

* It makes sense to step out of the store with your blotter, opines Lippi. "The cumulative effect of a hundred fragrances in the store can really confuse you. So, taking a minute to connect with your prospective fragrance outside the confines of the store might be a good idea."

* Try the perfume on your wrist, and if you're not in a hurry to buy it, we suggest you spend a day in it and then decide whether the fragrance is really you. As soon as you're convinced, head to the store to pick it up !

What your fragrance says about you
Fruity: You're lively and vivacious
Musk: You're serious and laidback
Floral: You're sexy and feminine
Earthy: You're down-to-earth and sober

S2, Shilpa's semi amber floral fragrance is like her in many ways subtle and feminine. But so are 70 per cent of the world's fragrances

The Paris Hilton fragrance, named after the hotel heiress is supposed to be sexy and seductive. Hmmm, why are we not surprised!

The Shah Rukh fragrance Tiger Eyes is strong and has a hint of musk. It's distinctly male ahem ahem!
