'Mumbai needs a master plan'

Mumbai:

Sandeep Runwal, director, Runwal Group shares with us his dream of a perfect Mumbai

Mumbai city needs one master plan that's independent of the political scenario in this city. But the important thing is that it should get properly executed and completed in a fixed time irrespective of the change of power.

As of now, everything is on paper or stagnant for an indefinite period of time. Infrastructure-wise, Mumbai needs wider roads, an efficient rail system, sufficient power and water supply.

We also don't have a proper East-West connectivity as yet, which makes travelling very difficult. And, I wish for a slum-free Mumbai. These steps will make Mumbai a world class city, if not a Shanghai.

The government needs to review the existing systems and take decisions. The local train network is a nightmare. People who don't hesitate to travel by trains in a European country, would hate to do so in Mumbai.

No one enjoys travelling by public transport as it's congested and dirty. We need a proper Metro Rail system that's speedy and inter-connects Mumbai and all its suburbs.

Flyovers are a temporary solution to traffic problems. We need clear zoning of residential and commercial areas and more green spaces.

Today, most schools or buildings don't even have a playground. Mumbaikars deserve a better quality of life, at least in terms of basic infrastructure.
