So many gyms, so little time
By: Calvin S M and Namita Gupta

Bangalore: The fact that almost everyone desires a trim waist and toned abs is what keeps the fitness equipment industry booming. While a poorly equipped and staffed gym could lower your self-confidence and lead you to believe that your fitness goals will never be achieved, a good gym could motivate you to exercise to stay fit and healthy.

Snap

True to their catchphrase 'fast, convenient, affordable' the gym is wonderfully compact in design and offers quick and easy routines for people on the go.

Snap probably has some of the most comfortable equipment that has been chosen for ergonomic design and efficiency in providing great workouts. What makes this gym a great choice is the personalised attention provided, especially when it comes to nutrition advice. On joining up, each person has to spend at least half an hour with a nutritionist who then designs a diet plan based on the new member's eating habits. The expert trainers also customise workout routines along with the nutritionists.

Another wonderful touch to this gym is the electronic room freshener, four in fact that goes off every now and then. No smelly odours here!

What's good:

Economical:
Approx Rs 1200 per month.
Program: Rapid 8 exercise routine and Boot Camp (Think 'soldier'. Intense cardio, exercise and stretching group sessions twice a week taken by a boot camp instructor, that promises exhausting fun the program however is yet to start)
Open all days: Including holidays.
Location: 12th Main, Indira Nagar.

Leena Mogre's

Leena Mogre's Specialised Fitness Gym, on CMH Road Indira Nagar, is spread over three floors and uses customised software to provide clients with specific diet and fitness plans. Apart from the equipment and the qualified trainers, the health bar is a big attraction.

Leena Mogre has spent 20 years in the business and has worked with Bollywood stars like Madhuri Dixit, John Abraham, Sameera Reddy, Neha Dhupia, Sohail and Arbaaz Khan, Katrina Kaif, Madhur Bhandarkar, as well as models like Shayan Munshi and Pia Trivedi.

What's good:

Instructors: Personal trainers at no extra cost
Equipment: Customised weight training machines
Discounts for couples and corporates
Location: 8, 8th Edifice, CMH Road, Indiranagar,
Ph: 41732828.

F Chisel

Part of the famous Chisel chain of gyms, this particular branch is also affiliated to Fashion TV. Not surprisingly, they have a spa in the same building. In fact, the entire gym is on four floors yoga, dance and aerobics classes are conducted on the ground floor, the spa is on the first floor, the weights section on the second floor and cardio is on the third floor. The equipment is mostly designed for fitness though serious bodybuilders can take advantage of some of the machines. The loos have lockers and steam bath facilities, and if you go in the evenings, you can watch TV in the cardio section blown up on a projector. In fact, some of the treadmills and cross trainers have TV screens on them.

What's great here is the spa facility. They offer a wide range of massages, including for specific body parts as well as for the whole body. They also have a small beauty salon. Quite fashionable don't you think?

What's good:

Easy going: Though they have private training for Diamond members, most of the time the trainers let you be without hounding you.
Value adds: Spa, lockers, baths and steam room.
Discounts: During festive season. However, they close on major festivals.
Location: 80 Ft Road, Koramangala.

I have been going to Leena Mogre's since it opened a few months ago. It is conveniently located in the heart of town. I like the fact that people who come here are serious about their workout. They are not here to flaunt their gym wear!

Sangeetha Shirali, Art director, Lowe.

I don't like doing weights, and so I opted for aerobics. I work out at Chisel on Richmond Road since it's close to work. However, no matter which gym I visit I am particular about the showers. Poor bath facilities are a major turn off

Raghav Bhatia, Business Exec, Citibank.
I enjoy doing heavy weights and building my physique. I go to Figure It Out since it's close to my office. A major turn off for me is worn out maintained equipment or old ones
