Keep it short with capris
By: Vipasha Pillai

Mumbai: When it comes to monsoon wear, capris are the perfect choice. They look good on most women, work for various occasions and most importantly, don't get dirty in the mud like full length pants. Here's how you can look stunning in capris this season !

Pick the perfect length
Capris come in a variety of lengths, everything from just below the knee to just above the ankle bone. "Capris are best in the monsoons, simply because they are very comfy and you can wear them to work. But it's important to pair them up right. To work, you can team them up with a nice sleeveless top and a short jacket," says Rocky S, fashion designer. As a general rule, a longer hemline something that falls below your calf, is the most versatile and the most flattering.
Avoid: Very short capris that hit just below the knee. They are just not meant to be worn to work, gals!'

Choose the right cut and pattern
Capris should fit close to the body, we obviously don't mean you should wear skin tight capris to work, but just make sure you choose straight-legged or a slightly flared pair. "Pockets are also something to think about when you're looking for work-appropriate capri pants. Opt for a flat front capri, which has no pockets. They look more professional," says Rocky. Slash pockets can make your hips look wider. And, never ever make the mistake of putting your cellphone in your pocket.
Avoid: Capris that are tapered or those that are too wide. They can make your hips look really big. Stay away from big, bold prints unless you are really slender

Wear the right shoes
Capris work best with flats or kitten heels. But that doesn't mean you wear slides or flip-flops to work. No way! Those are too casual to be worn to work. Open-toed delicate sandals work best, chappals can throw up a lot of mud in the rains.
Avoid: Wearing high heels, loafers, socks or even pump shoes with capris for God's sake!

Team them up with...
"For a casual office atmosphere, you can opt for cotton-blend capris, but please avoid wearing pleated capri pants. Pair capris with a fitted tee and a jacket or a simple cotton tee. For a more conservative office atmosphere, choose capris in a silk (not in monsoons) or wool blend, and wear them with a dressier blouse or sweater or a jacket," suggests fashion designer Shaina N C.
Avoid: Wearing a suit blazer, which can throw off the proportion of the capris. If you must wear a jacket, look for a capri suit, or choose a close-fitting jacket with three-quarter-length sleeves

Tips on wearing capris
* Capris make your legs look shorter, so petite females should opt for longer capris
* They should be straight legged or flared, but never skin tight
* For casual wear choose capris in a lightweight material
* For a casual look, wear flip-flops with capris, whereas for a more sophisticated look, wear strappy sandals, ballet slippers or backless sandals
