Vidya Malvade's secret to healthy, lustrous hair is the new Parachute Advansed Night Repair Creme |
* For starters, keep your hair clean. Remember to wash it every morning. The scalp tends to get oily in this season due to the heavy moisture in the air. Asha Hariharan, owner of Beyond the Fringe and a panel judge for the upcoming L'Oreal Professional Colour Trophy suggests using a clarifying shampoo. "Wash your hair frequently using a shampoo that suits your hair type. But also use a purifying shampoo after every 4-5 washes." The high humidity can cause fungal growth to thrive, which is why a purifying shampoo is a must.
* Condition your hair thrice a week, if you still want to be its boss. Those unruly tresses can give you a lot of grief if you don't apply conditioner. If you've got frizzy hair, you might want to use it on a daily basis. But do remember to wash off your conditioner fully, says actor Vidya Malvade.
* When Vidya doesn't have time to oil her hair, she uses the new Parachute Advansed Night Repair Creme. "You can apply it in the night and wake up to shining, lustrous hair. Since it's an easy routine to follow, it's a smart and quick way to good hair."
* An expert from P&G Beauty says, "Dry your hair before stepping out. The rainwater and the unhealthy moisture can also add to your dandruff." Hair is prone to dandruff in the rainy months, she adds. If the problem is severe, we suggest you head to a doctor asap. If it's not such a cause of worry, you could use an anti-dandruff shampoo. Frequent washes should control the problem.
* She also suggests using a wide toothed hairbrush. "Detangle your hair first by brushing the ends and then run it through the length of your hair. Brushing enhances the circulation of the scalp and keeps it healthy."
* Following a healthy diet is a must too. In fact it works better than anything else in the world. Cut down on oily and spicy food. Eat three fruits a day and freak out on the veggies. The results will speak for themselves.
* Instead of buying oodles of hair care products, stick to the basics, suggests Vidya. "If you use everything that's around, you will lose the essence of good, healthy hair. Figure out what suits you before settling on the product."
* Put away your gel and wax. You could however use the mousse in this weather, suggests Asha. "Usually mousse dries up the hair, but since there is so much moisture in the air during the monsoons, it can be used without any stress." !
Monsoon don'ts
* Don't get chemical treatments like perming and straightening done in this season, cautions the beauty expert from P&G. Haven't you lost enough hair already?
* Don't use a hairdryer, it might make the hair rough
* Don't use too many styling products, suggests Vidya. They'll only attract dirt and grime, making your hair look greasy
* Don't comb your hair when it is wet
* Try not to get your hair wet in the rain. Rainwater brings with it pollutants that can damage hair
