Choose the right hairbrush
By: SHEENA THOMAS

Mumbai: If you ask your granny the secret to healthy hair, she'd probably tell you to run the brush through it a hundred times. Well, this age-old wisdom might have worked for her, but it seems improbable given our hectic schedules and erratic work hours. So, save yourself the bother and just buy yourself the right brush and see the difference it makes to your hair !

Curly or wavy hair
If you like your hair looking straighter than it is, use a wide brush the wider the brush, the straighter your hair will fall. Use one with nylon bristles as that will be gentle on your hair reducing the hairfall during the brushing stage
Styling tip: To enhance your curls, use a leave-in conditioner. Scrunch your hair using your hands while it is wet

Limp hair
If you've got limp or scanty hair, we suggest you use a brush with bristles that are close together. A round brush will add volume and bounce to your hair
Styling tip: Curl your hair inwards using a round brush and a hairdryer. Don't do this too frequently though as the hairdryer will make your hair drier

Straight hair
You're quite lucky if you have straight hair as you can use any brush under the sun. However, a flat brush is ideal for you
Styling tip: If your hair's been cut in layers, we suggest you twist it and roll it up in a bun when it is semi-dry. Blow some hot air from the dryer and leave the bun in place for 5-10 mins. The layers will be more defined once you open your hair

Frizzy hair
We suggest you use a wide-toothed comb or better still, a pick, to manage your tresses. A brush with bristles can damage your hair causing breakage.
Styling tip: To tame your hair, use anti-frizz products. You could also apply a wee bit of oil to keep your hair in place

Cleaning your hairbrush
1. Remove all the hair that's sticking on it
2. Soak it in soapy water for five mins
3. Use an old toothbrush to remove all the dirt and grime from it
4. Dry it before using it again
