Throw in a big helping of tech skills, season with a dash of inspiration and bring to a boil with passion. That's exactly what two techies did to create an online portal of restaurants.  Ritesh and Priyanka, co-founders of Hungry Zone, are from IIT, Kharagpur. Apart from their love of food and technical know-how, they nursed entrepreneurship dreams. Hungry Zone now lists 450 restaurants in Bangalore.

"Hungry Zone is a website where you can place an order with any of the listed restaurants in the city, from wherever you are. We also list menus of restaurants that deliver lunch/dinner to people at work," explains Ritesh.

"The website is user-friendly and convenient since it has all information of a restaurant such as the menu, phone number and address. Users can post their reviews on the site. The feedback has proved useful to many restaurant owners," adds Priyanka.

Hungry Zone also gives you the option of ordering for large gatherings as well as presenting meal gift vouchers to friends and family. "One of our users once sent her parents a gift voucher to a fancy restaurant since she couldn't be with them for Diwali, and her parents were very touched," recounts Ritesh.

Though Hungry Zone lists restaurants in other cities as well, online orders are currently limited to Bangalore.

Explaining how the idea was born, Priyanka says, "We were new to Bangalore, we did not know the local language and we used to work late nights, so we had a real problem getting decent food. We discovered that there was hardly any reliable information on restaurants in Bangalore for people like us. When we discussed the problem with colleagues, they said they also suffered a similar plight, and that's how Hungry Zone came into being."

Hungry Zone sure is a yummy example of how necessity is the mother of invention.
