Cutting edge style worn by model who walked backwards

You either love or hate a collection. And more often, the decision is taken the minute the first model struts in wearing the debut garment. So, when South African model Milean (who has quickly become a favourite with Indian designers, much to the dismay of her Indian counterparts) walked in backwards, wearing a garment that defied every rule of "pretty fashion", we knew this would be interesting.

Clothes with introspection, CellDSGN's collection was as much about the finished product as it was about a return to innocence, where heaps of coarse cloth and a measuring tape manage to translate a designer's vision.

The brainchild of Smita Singh Rathore and Himanshu Shani, CellDSGN was set up in 2003 in Italy, after they completed post-graduate training at the Domus Academy, a design school in Milan. With a resume that lists working with Diesel, Neil Barrett, Levi's, Gas Jeans and 55 DSL, their afternoon show generated enough buzz.

Their participation at fashion week adds to India's new breed of adventurous architects, who'd never compromise their right to imagination, in a bid to turn mainstream and therefore, successful.

The range: With an exception of a few halter and cowl dresses in snake skin cotton silk, the range presented the Victorian with a modern context; voluminous, flowing drapes in Taffeta silk, lace and tulle serenading structural and androgynous styling.

Dirty white moved to black, with shades of grey and violet in between, and snake skin and an 11.11 tape print adding a interesting angle. At every given opportunity, organiser Sumeet Nair has stressed that Delhi Fashion Week is about providing a platform to cutting-edge fashion. CellDSGN proved him right.

Namrata does it again: Namrata Joshipura  showcased an interesting line of dresses, short skirts, hot pants, jumpsuits, and long jackets.

Dart detailing ran throughout the collection that saw tone-on-tone embroidery and surface texturing.

She used hot pinks, Kelly green, burning orange, silver, pale gold, and hints of black with chrome contrast.
