Are you fit for a workout?
By: Sheena Thomas

Mumbai:

Some go to the gym to workout while others to ogle. While, we don't know which category you fall in, we hope that you're not making your workouts a pain for the others around. Here's our gym etiquette guide that you can swear by:

Don't sweat too much
While we know you don't have any control over your sweat glands, you can at least keep a deo and towel handy. If you don't, you'll find your trainer ditching you pretty soon, that's if s/he hasn't already.

Don't monopolise the shower
Please guys remember that you aren't bathing in your personal bathroom. You may be sweaty and dirty, but that doesn't give you the license to spend a lifetime in the gym shower. Anything over 5 minutes is bad manners. There's a queue outside, so hurry up!

Don't ogle
Hmmm... we concede that both men and women are a great sight to behold in their fitness gear, but staring endlessly at them is not going to help you burn calories. What's worse, you'll make them feel uncomfortable too. So please keep your secret fantasies to yourself.

Don't dress to kill
Some actors might workout in their underwear, but you can't because a) you probably don't have their physique b) you're not a celeb who's looking for publicity c) you're not campaigning for an underwear brand. Seriously guys, you may have the right to embarrass yourself, but you certainly don't have the right to distract others. Ladies, please leave your itsy-bitsy teeny weenies for a day at the beach.

Don't talk loudly
Ya we know that the music out there is loud and you have to raise your voice by a few decibels to be heard, but that's not the same as screaming. Everyone in the gym isn't interested in what you have to say, so please shhhhh.

Don't share confidences
What goes around, keeps going around and gets marinated in a lot of mirch masala along the way. So, be careful about what you share in the gym. Gossip and fitness go hand in hand so don't find a soulmate in your gym.

Don't invade private space
Most people while working out don't want to be disturbed. Don't cosy up to a treadmill or cycle for a chat with your eye candy gymmate. Give them their space while they are working out. You could catch up on conversation when their workout's over.

Wax your underarms
Whether you're a man or a woman, you need to wax your underarms. No one wants to see your hairy armpits at the gym !
