Mumbai: Do you bring out your lipstick every time you chance upon a mirror? All of us want our lipstick to last throughout the day, but it seems like a near impossible dream. Here are some step-by-step application tips to make your colour last longer:

Use a lip liner pencil
Always outline your lips with a lip liner to keep your lipstick from feathering or bleeding outside your lip boundary. Choose a lip pencil or liner that matches the natural colour of your lips, instead of matching it with your lipstick shade. By doing this, you will be left with a natural-looking colour on your lips rather than an uneven blotchy colour

Choose the right formula
As a rule, sheer formulas and lip glosses have more moisture and don't last long. Cream or semi-matte lipsticks last longer, with matte lipsticks lasting the longest. So, opt for matte lipsticks as they have a greater pigment content and a heavy texture

Applying the first coat
Apply a coat of lipstick directly from the tube on your lips. But it's better to use a lip brush if you are applying bolder colours like red, maroon or chocolate as they need to be applied precisely. Once applied, place a tissue between your lips and blot

Apply powder
Once your first coat has dried, apply a light layer of pressed or loose powder over it. This will ensure that your colours lasts you the day. The powder absorbs moisture and sets it like foundation makeup.  Dab the powder on your lips with a powder brush or a makeup puff

Finishing the lips
Add a second coat of lipstick after finishing the above procedure. Always remember that if you apply lip gloss over your lipstick, the length of wear will reduce, so it's your choice

Drawing your lips
* Lightly trace the outline of your lips by working the lip liner from the corner of your lips
* To make thinner lips appear fuller, outline directly on the outer ridge of the lip
* To make full lips appear slightly smaller, apply the liner on the inside edge of the lip. Colour in the entire lip with the lip liner or lip pencil to prevent it from looking blotchy
