Insaaf ka taraazu

Designer Manav Gangwani managed to showcase his couture collection both, off and on ramp. Row one ladies Sophie Choudry, Queenie Dhody and Farah Khan, wore his glamorous sarees, while models showcased some insane interpretations of conventional bridal wear.

Maverick designers abroad including John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier, explore the couture week platform to reveal their zany streak. "India Couture Week is providing designers like me, the chance to let our imagination run wild," said Manav, about his collection titled, An Autumn Sonata.

We loved: Prêt has never been Manav's strength, so, we were ready for drama to unfold against a spiral stairway set against a Renaissance backdrop.  Voluminous lehengas were teamed with traditional cholis, that were given a quirky makeover.

We were confused: Unity in diversity is not an easy goal to achieve. Earnest as it might be, Manav's attempt at showcasing a mad mix of hairdos, accessories, even music (from Buddha Bar tunes to old gaanas Chalte chalte... yun hi koi mil gaya tha), didn't quite all come together.
