Mumbai: Cut. The film industry revolves around this word and so does the fashion industry. What is more important is that your style should revolve around it too. Cuts are what make your dressing sensational.
An ill-fitting dress, kurti or top is sure to come in the way of your success. We find out what is in fashion and what will suit your body type the best. Take a look:

Balloon cut
While some designers say that this cut is completely out of fashion, others vouch that it's going to be around for at least another year. "Balloon cuts look great on very slender women as they give an illusion of volume. However, for women with big hips, it's a complete no no," says Anjalee.Tops look good to work too and you can wear them in linen or cotton fabrics. Even a nice silk print top will work well. A balloon cut silk print dress will be a total knockout at an office party.
Best on: Women with narrow hips and waist

A-line
"A-line is the most complimentary cut for women, especially when it comes to Indian wear.

It fits the bust and then contours out gently, giving one a very feminine look," says Bollywood designer Shaahid Amir.

Adds wardrobe consultant Varsha Bhawnani of Vinegar, "A-line dresses with V, horse shoe and scooping necklines work well. Short slim girls should wear it in neutral shades like black, white, beige, etc."

Best on: Women with a broad waist and hips

Empire line
Presently this cut rules. From western wear to Indian designs, the empire cut has made its mark. Anarkali being one of its most recently popular forms. Says fashion designer Tarana Masan, "Empire line should be avoided by women with heavy busts."

She also cautions that the anarkali cut should be worn by overweight women only if the empire line is not fitted at the waist. Adds fashion designer Anjalee Kapoor, "Short women should avoid wearing long empire line cut kurtis."

Best on:
Women with big tummies and hips

Kaftan

This cut works on loose-fit apparel. Kaftan tops in thicker fabrics look nice on bigger size women. Slender women should go for a sheer, transparent chiffon kurtas, which gives them a sexy look.

Short kaftan tops that gather around the waist look great on slim girls. Plump women should stay away from this variety.

Best on: Women with bulges to hide

Wrap
Wrap dresses or tops are extremely comfortable, especially for women with a heavy bust size.
"They are ideal to work as they give you a slender look," says Anjalee.

Dresses or tops in a wrap cut make your waist look smaller and so are a good option for girls with broad shoulders.

Best on: Women with a narrow waist
