You need not upset your daily workout routine when you are off on a business trip. iTALK gives you the lowdown on a few innovative, but easy exercises that you can do in your hotel room or swimming pool
AQUA EXERCISES : Water provides an excellent source of resistance that makes even simple exercises fun and beneficial. Water exercises are often recommended for those with joint problems from injuries or from Arthritis and Bursitis.
Standing Water 1: >>Stand with your feet slightly apart in waist or chest-deep water. Place hands on waist. >>Jump up and extend legs sideward. Then jump up again and return legs to starting position. Do 10 repetitions. Standing Water 2: >>Stand in chest-deep water. Raise left arm straight up over head. Slowly stretch, bending to the right. Return to starting position. Alternate arms and bend over to the other side. Repeat 10 times.
Chest Pulls in water: >>The resistance provided by water can also be used to develop the upper body.
Chest Pull 1: >>Stand in chest-high water with your arms extended in front under water and push them out to either side. >>With open palms, drive the arms together until they meet in front. Do 10 repetitions. Chest Pull 2: >>Stand in chest-high water. Extend arms to either side on top of water, palms down and open. Drive the arms under water until they rest at sides. Pull arms back to surface of water. Repeat 10 times. Chest Pull 3: >>Stand in chest-high water. With arms bent in front and palms at chest, raise elbows. >>Press the arms down toward the abdomen level. Pull arms back to starting position. Repeat 10 times vigorously.
THE HOTEL ROOM WORKOUT: Staying out of town can really upset your daily routine. Eating in strange restaurants, sleeping in hotel rooms, even being without your favourite local newspaper can make you feel out of sorts. One way of keeping your sanity is continuing your workouts. Here are some easy exercises to keep you occupied while you wait for room service.
The laptop case curl: >>Since very few of us pack our dumbbells for a business trip, you have to improvise. >>Sit on the desk chair or the edge of the bed. Grasp your laptop bag. >>Then lift it, curling as you would a dumbbell. Do 20 repetitions. If the case is too light and you are accustomed to heavier weights, try putting the Yellow Pages inside and then start curling, letting your fingers do the walking. Pull-ups at your door: >>Most hotel doorways have some sort of molding. After warming up with a few arm circles and shoulder shrugs, find a secure molding over a doorway in your room. >>Test it by lifting yourself only inches from the floor. If it feels secure, do a few pull-ups.
