Most products at the store are made of leather

Pali Hill has a new lifestyle address. And it's called Eastern Treasure, which describes itself as 'a whole new world of aesthetics, structures and shapes, all brought to life through a breathtaking array of furniture and accessories'.

The brainchild of Renu Chainani, a leather accessories designer and exporter, Eastern Treasure showcases a varied range of furniture and accessories in leather. "Each piece is deftly created in imaginative and exclusive structures and that's what sets Eastern Treasure apart from other lifestyle stores," says Renu. She adds, "Our collection of handcrafted pieces in leather, coupled with wood and wrought iron, are combinations that are avant garde yet elegant." Leather-bound furniture like desks, chairs, poofs, tables, stools and accessories like lamp bases, cushion covers, photo frames, diaries, office desk sets and magazine holders enjoy pride of place at Eastern Treasure. "These leather pieces blended with wood and iron add a stylish touch to any home or office," explains Renu. "Detailing in the form of prints, antique polishes, staining and weaves add a cutting edge charm to the collection."

Why does Renu prefer using leather as her medium? "Leather is a very versatile material which is also easy to maintain and is long-lasting," she says. "The more it ages, the better it looks."

Renu, who personally designs most of the leather articles and furniture, has the products handcrafted at workshops in New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. Also available at Eastern Treasure are acrylic artworks by fashion model Namrata Barua (lamps, trays, flower holders in beautiful acrylic floral motifs), cane and rattan furniture from Belladonna, and a range of photo frames, trays, boxes, candleholders and furniture from Craftings a company that promotes 'chitrikaam', a dying art form from the Kutch region using clay and mirror work.

You'll also come across Oriental prints and African art, Feng Shui products from Dr Lizia Batla, Buddha figurines in brass from Nepal and Tibet, and antique Chinese furniture like lacquer-finish cabinets, wing chairs, rice bowls and coffee tables. Prices range from Rs 150 to Rs 35,000.

Eastern Treasure also custom designs furniture and revamps home decor. Renu offers the service of basic interior work and finishing like wall colouring, drapes, cushions and redoing furniture.
