The gun used by the constable being taken for analysis
The police had earlier claimed that Gangurde killed himself as he was upset about his mother's death. The constable shot himself in the neck with a rifle at the storeroom in the station.
The police are investigating the case following the suicide note in which Gangurde has blamed the deputy commissioner of police Shashikant Shinde (Zone 11) and the assistant commissioner of police (Goregaon division) Shankar Puri for his death.
"In his note, Gangurde said that he was committing suicide because he was fed up of being harassed by the two senior officers," reveals a source from Oshiwara police station. He was not given holidays and put on bandobast duties, he said in the letter.
In light of these allegations, Madhu Shinde, additional commissioner of police (North zone), has handed over the investigation to Appasaheb Kadam, deputy commissioner of police of Zone 12.
According to his colleagues, Gangurde was hit by a stone on his head two years ago. The police claim that this hampered his performance. "He would take leave often and he would never go for bandobast duty," says a colleague. "All policemen keep long hours.
Gangurde did not have a tough job. He had to clean the guns and weaponry at the station and present all the weapons at the parades. This is not a difficult job as compared to the work being done by the rest of the constables," adds a police official.
