600 people visited the city
According to Dr Vinod Goyel of Surya Eyetech, over 600 people came for the eye check-up during the four days of the camp. Says Dr Goyel, "Our target was 500 patients, and we managed to examine around 600 people.
A large number of patients who were tested at the camp had diabetes-related eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy but had no clue about it before they came for the check-up. Says Dr Goyel, "If given proper treatment at the right time, the person's eye sight can be preserved.
"Eye care for diabetes should be given special attention. Since diabetes-related eye problems are painless, many patients tend to ignore them, which later results in an irreversible condition," explains Dr Goyel.
At the camp, examination included routine check-up of the eye and fundus photography. The patients were also provided free literature on eye diseases and eye care.
