With streaked hair, a nose ring and fancy bindis she is one of the most glamorous mother on the small screen. Usha Bachani who plays Pammi Bakshi, the obsessed mother in the serial Dil Na Jane Kyun on Zee TV and the manipulative Nikita Nath in Vishwaas on Zee TV says she doesnt mind playing mom to strapping young guys around the same age as hers. Says Usha, It did bother me initially but then I thought as an actress my prime concern should be my role whatever the age I have to project. And Ive noticed that girls younger than me are playing mother roles, so its fine.
Fortunately, mothers today dont have to be wrapped up in a cotton saree and wear a grey wig.
They are being accepted if they are trendy, glamorous and sexy and presented in spaghetti strap saree blouses and the latest hairstyles, And if one is playing a wicked stepmother, like I do in Vishwaas, then you can go all out and work on your looks. Its really very exciting, says Usha, who is a former model.
Usha was initiated into acting in serials by producer Prachi Bhatia. Says Usha, She was making Jane Kaha Mera Jigar Gayaji, which was loosely based on Dimple Kapadias life. She saw my pictures in Mid Day when I was a model and called me because my thick hair looked just like Dimples.
With that serial began her foray into acting. Sea Hawks, Neeyat, Chandrakanta and Challenge are some of the other serials Usha worked in. In films, she landed parts in Raju Chacha and Deewane.
But it is Dil Na Jane Kyun which has got me recognition, and Id love to do more serials where I am given meaty roles, says Usha.
She is also looking forward to Mahesh Manjrekars film Pyar Kiya Nahin Jata which releases on June 27. Her other ventures include Rajat Rawails Saazish in which she plays the owner of a social organisation, and there is Rajesh Bhatts Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya.
A resident of Lokhandwala for over two decades, Usha says she loves shopping and claims she knows each and every shop in the Lokhandwala market. Im a voracious shopper and like picking up curios, watches, and of course clothes whenever I go to the market.
