Should Raigad be made India's Las Vegas
By:

I wish the government opened a casino in Mumbai as it would blend well with the citys urbane culture.

The proposal of having one in Raigad is quite good, but it is too far from Mumbai. Therefore, though I would visit the casino, it would only be for the weekend or on a short vacation as commuting to and fro in a day is not feasible.

Whether I will go to there often or not will depend upon how good the place is. If it is going to be a world-class casino offering a variety of entertainment and gambling avenues, then it will be worth a visit once in a while.

The proposed casino stands a chance of becoming the Las Vegas of India only if it comes up to international standards. Only then will people from all over the country consider visiting Raigad for a short gambling holiday, as people from around the world flock to Las Vegas.

Though many people may disagree, I do not see anything wrong in gambling as long as it is does not become a habit. I have also gambled in Nepal and bought lottery tickets now and then. I believe that as adults people should be left free to indulge in anything that they like. It should be upto them to decide their limits. Moral policing by the government and society does not really work as those who wish to indulge in such activities do so anyway.

I am aware of illegal gambling joints in Lokhandwala Versova where many people I know g amble regularly. Illegal matka activities also flourish in a big way. Instead of wasting time in controlling these activities, I think it is sensible to legalise gambling.

So the proposed plan by the government to open a casino is more than welcome.
