All illegal water pipelines inside Ganpat Patil Slum at IC Colony Extension, claimed to be the biggest illegal slum of Borivli, were disconnected by the BMC on March 12, in view of the water scarcity faced by the residents of IC Colony, LIC Colony, Kandarpada and Dahisar.
The operation, which took one day and was undertaken by the R-north office, started at around 10 am and continued till 5 pm.
The slumdwellers were caught off guard as around 25 BMC workers along with a bulldozer started uprooting the water connections. Constables from MHB police station provided security.
Including the iron and the rubber pipelines, approximately 20 water connections were detected and sealed during the operation.
"This is not the first time we are disconnecting the water supply to this slum," says BG Mayenkar, sub-engineer of the water department in R-north, who was present during the operation.
"On Dec 21 we had undertaken a similar operation," adds Mayenkar.
