Hettys a classical music fan; Shaheel (below) is into rapAs part of their platinum jubilee celebrations, the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana presented Memories are made of this, a live music celebration on Nov 9 at St Andrews auditorium. Participants ranged from 12-year-old Shaheel Lalwani to 81-year-old singer Henrietta Fernandes.
Henrietta, popularly known as Hetty, is a resident of St Pauls Road.
She presented a Johann Strauss waltz number I am in love with Vienna. I have been singing since the age of six, and have sung for All India Radio for almost 40 years now, mainly solo western numbers. Now I teach pupils at home, says Hetty.
I am here today because a lot of people wanted me to sing. Otherwise I dont perform these days, she adds.
For Shaheel, on the other hand, this was her first live performance. I am not nervous, just excited, claims Shaheel who had chosen to perform Eminems Live for the Moment. Studying in Class 6 at Beacon High School, Shaheel believes that Eminem is the ultimate rapper.
His songs talk about violence and aggression. Everything comes through so clearly in his music, thats why I like him, explains Shaheel.
And as for the offensive language, Shaheel adds in a matter-of-fact manner, I am going to leave that out.
