Two adjacent flats in Jeevan Bahar building on 21st Road were broken into on Oct 4 and 6. Both flats, located on the second floor of the building, were unoccupied when the thefts took place.
While the thieves found nothing in the empty flat, they stole about Rs 30,000 from the second flat, whose owners were out of town at the time. A complaint has been lodged with the Chembur police.
On Oct 4, the thieves broke into the unoccupied flat. But the flat was empty and nothing was stolen. Then on Oct 6, around 4.30 pm, robbers broke into the second flat and stole Rs 30,000 cash from a bedroom cupboard. But they left the TV, computer, camera and other electronic items behind.
The robbers broke into both flats through the front doors.
On Oct 6, a third floor resident became suspicious when he saw the door open at 9.30 pm because only half-an-hour earlier he had seen the flat closed. Thats when building memebers informed the flat owners, who returned to file a complaint.
Residents are baffled by the break-ins as the building has three watchmen. There is one watchman each at the two main gates, at any given point of time, say residents.
