500 people attended Aslam Shaikhs iftaar party
The guests finished all the goodies in 15 minutesAslam Shaikh, corporator for ward number 136, hosted an iftaar party for his area comprising Malvani and MHADA on Nov 9. The party started at 6 pm and the feast included fruits, mutton samosas, chicken patties, halwa and cold drinks.
Within 10 minutes over 500 people finished all the goodies. Shaikh says he has been hosting iftaar parties for a long time now. My father used to host them and now it has become a tradition for me to host a party every year, he says.
Rathodi Village bans fireworks on Diwali
The predominantly Christian locality of Rathodi Village, Malad (W) organised a two-day celebration on the occasion of Diwali from Nov 12-13.
There was a ban on crackers and the kids were also informed about their hazards.
A cooking contest for families of the village was organised on the first day, where 28 families cooked a variety of food items starting from traditional Maharashtrian dishes to biryani and kheer.
Games and fashion shows were also held on the first day, while traditional celebrations marked the second day, where the entire village was lit up with diyas and candles.
Festivities continued even the day after Diwali where Rathodi Residents Welfare Association held games and competitions for kids and adults alike.
Says resident Hubert Vaz, Diwali is an Indian festival and should be celebrated by all Indians. The idea of celebrating this festival is to bring people from all communities together
Police commissioner was the chief guest of the police iftaar party
Over 400 people attended the iftaar partyOver 400 people attended the iftaar party held at Swagat Park, Link Road, and hosted by ACP of Malad division Bhimrao Sonavane and Malad-Malvani mohalla committee on the 24th day of Ramzaan. The event was held on Nov 8.
Police commissioner AN Roy was the chief guest and MLA PU Mehta was the guest of honour for the evening.
The event began at 6 pm and people broke their fast within 10 minutes with assorted fruits, pakodas and watermelon juice.
After the feast, the guests were felicitated with flowers and they spoke on the occasion.
This feeling of brotherhood should remain throughout the year and not just during Ramzaan, Eid or Diwali. The police work with the co-operation from the people.
So if this city is peaceful today its because of the joint efforts of the citizens and the police, says AN Roy, who also recited a few shers on the occasion.
