On July 23, Mid Day had reported that a Goregaon residents met with an accident and went into a coma while trying to save two other accident victims. Anand Mirajkars family had stated that their sons treatment could cost up to Rs 3 lakh and they didnt have the money.
Following that report the Mirajkars have received donations worth Rs 1.5 lakh in cheques and demand drafts.
On July 8, 33-year-old Mirajkar was riding his bike with a friend on the Borivli-Kandivli flyover at 2 am when he saw two men lying on the road. They were bleeding profusely and crying for help. Mirajkar and his friend Sachin Madavlekar stopped to help.
They parked the bike on the side of the road, near the end of the flyover, and rushed to their aid.
Mirajkar, who works for a courier company and had celebrated his 33rd birthday the previous day, grabbed one of the men and was about to carry him to the edge of the road with the help of his friend Madavlekar, when a speeding Santro hit him and sped away. Madavlekar recalls, As we were carrying him, I dropped my helmet. Just as I bent down to pick it up, Anand was run over.
Madavlekar says he waited for over half-an-hour, until a man in an Indica stopped to help. He drove the three injured men to Nanavati hospital, where Mirajkar was admitted to intensive care.
Mirajkar has since undergone neurosurgery but is still in critical condition. Dr Nitin Rathod says, He has been diagnosed with intra-cerebral haematoma and is in a coma. But he is recovering quickly now.
