A 32-year-old auto driver Chandrakant Kulye was killed in an accident at Navghar Junction on Eastern Express Highway, Mulund (E) on June 4.
Kulye was taking a turn at the junction when an ambulance crashed into his auto.
I was there when my nephew was hit by the ambulance. Initially, the police didnt register a case and later the driver was granted bail, informs Babu Kulye, uncle of the deceased.
The victim was taken to Mulund General Hospital and then shifted to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion. After struggling for his life for two days, Kulye succumbed on June 9.
He was the sole earning member. He is survived by his wife and three children. Some kind of compensation should be given to them, adds Babu Kulye.
Following the accident, the Rickshaw Association of Mulund met the police. The driver cant be let off so easily. He is not supposed to be out on bail, says Purushutam Munshi, chairman of the Rickshaw Association of Mulund.
We have now filed a case of death due to negligence under Section 304 of the IPC against the accused. Accordingly action will be taken, says Halde, sub-inspector, Navghar police station.
