Khar cops arrest man wanted in 6 robberies

On Oct 29, the Khar police arrested a robber accused of six robberies and an attempted robbery in Karma Investments, SV Road, Khar. The accused Jinnah Mohammed (35) was finally caught when he was attempting to rob another bank on PD Hinduja Road.

In Sept Mohammed, accompanied by five accomplices, had attempted to rob Karma Investments mistaking it for a bank.

After entering the place armed with a pistol and chopper, he demanded money from the people. When he came to know that the consultancy firm mainly deals through cheques he ran away, says Dilip Shinde, detection police sub-inspector of Khar police station.

After his unsuccessful robbery attempt in Karma Investments, the police were able to identify Mohammed following the description provided by eyewitnesses.

Acting on a tip off, the Khar cops managed to find out that Mohammed was planning to rob banks on PD Hinduja Road and would be in the area to inspect his targets Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda and Oriental Bank.

We knew his modus operandi because he has a criminal record. He always visits the area where he is planning his robbery and checks who is a regular at which bank and how much money he can rob from the person, adds Shinde.

According to the cops, the accused has robbed his targets of over Rs 20 lakh.

Investigations are underway to catch the other accomplices who were with him in the Karma Investments robbery.
