Giving a boost to residents and BMCs efforts to make Bandra community bin-free, Ashish Shellar, corporator of ward 77, has provided 75 bins to buildings on 16th Road, Khar and South Avenue, Santacruz on Feb 5.
Says Shellar, I did this keeping in mind BMCs recent drive to do away with community bins in each ward. I spent almost a lakh for the bins.
The 250 litre bins were handed over to the secretaries of each building. Says Shellar, These will be sufficient to meet the demands of each building. More such bins will be distributed in other areas soon.
Residents are hoping this will help get rid of the community bins in the area in the next three to four days. Reacting to the distribution drive, Sanjeevani Kashikar, secretary of Naad Brahma, 17th Road, Khar, says, We have been discussing about doing away with community bins and had asked Shellar for the bins. We are glad we got them so soon.

The residents also seem to be pleased with the size of the bins. Says Manohar Rohra, secretary of Chadha Niwas on 18th Road, Santacruz, The bins are big enough to accommodate the buildings garbage. Also, its good that we have these bins as the BMC van can collect waste directly from the buildings everyday now.
Adds Kashikar, Once we do way with the community bins, people will also stop littering the area and the road will look cleaner.
