Sanjay Gupta After a laparoscopic operation that lasted nine hours, film director Sanjay Gupta was shifted to the intensive care unit of the Lilavati hospital at 5:30 am today.
"His bleeding is under control and all other parameters are okay," Prakash Mhatre, director (operations) Lilavati, said, when contacted at 8:45 am today. Gupta is on the ventilator and will be kept under observation for another 48 hours, Mhatre added. He is being attended to by a team of doctors which includes a general surgeon, orthopaedician, neurologist and intensivists.
Gupta was admitted to Lilavati at around 3:50 pm after his car rammed into a pole on the Mumbai-Pune highway. He had earlier been treated at the Sterling hospital in Vashi.
Gupta was brought to Lilavati in a critical condition. "His liver and spleen were damaged. The lungs were also affected and he had multiple fractures in his hands and ribs," Mhatre said.
