Police have arrested four alleged members of the notorious Arun Gawali gang, on charges of attempting to extort money in two separate incidents in the city during the last 24 hours. Police sources said Sunil Pandurang Parkar (26), Ganesh Pandurang Parkar (26) and Deepak Pandurang Valekar (45) were nabbed at V P Road in south Mumbai. The accused had demanded Rs 25,000 from one Sanjay Jadhav, threatening dire consequences if he failed to pay. Jadhav approached the police who laid a trap and caught the gangsters red-handed. Two of their associates -- Jayesh Mahendra Mastar (25) and Sanjay Jadhav (28), however, managed to escape. In another incident, Sayyed Ali Rashai (23) was arrested at Khar for reportedly demanding Rs 50,000 from Devkumar Vedvani, a doctor. Cases have been registered against the four and further investigations are on, sources added.
