Maharashtra government has decided to institute an award in memory of veteran actress late Lalita Pawar, whose numerous roles as a spitfire mother-in-law and sugar candy house owner made her one of the most popular actresses of her times. The decision was announced in the state legislative council by minister of state for cultural affairs Vimal Mundada today. The minister was replying to a supplementary by opposition members, who demanded to know why the government had not yet instituted an award after the actress despite an assurance during an earlier session of the house. Recounting the invaluable contribution of the actress, who acted in numerous Hindi and Marathi films and created an exclusive niche for herself with her acting prowess, the opposition was critical of the government stand of delaying naming an award after her. The minister's assurance that it would take a decision on naming an award after Lalita Pawar at a meeting on April 30, met with stiff objection, with the opposition insisting that the minister declare the decision on the matter on the floor of the house itself. Giving in to the opposition demand, the minister agreed that an award would be instituted after the actress as promised by the government earlier.
