Western Railway gears up for monsoon |

Western Railway (WR) has geared up to face the monsoons and has carried out an extensive drive to clear the muck from the tracks and drains. WR's outgoing general manager V D Gupta informed at a news conference here that 51,370 that cubic metres of garbage, equivalent to 8,562 truck loads, had been removed from the tracks and 25 kms of pucca drains had been cleaned. Roofings at the railway stations had also been strengthened, he said. Gupta also informed that the divisional railway manager has a flood disaster management plan with detailed instructions to deal with any emergent situation. Scientific information has also been collected for advanced preparedness where heavy downpour coincides with high tide, he added. The MeT office at Colaba here has predicted that rains will start in this city on June 10 and there will be normal rains this season
