Accusing television channel Sony Max of showing disrespect to the national flag during the India-New zealand world cup tie yesterday, the Shiv Sena today urged the centre to initiate legal proceedings against the channel. Delhi Shiv Sena president Abhimanyu Gulati said after India's victory over the Kiwis yesterday, Sony Max displayed the tricolour upside down on its studio desk in the extra innings programme on the world cup. This was done in the presence of former cricket players Kapil Dev, Arun Lal, Venkatesh Prasad, actress Mandira Bedi and anchor Charu Sharma, it said. While the Indian cricketers are keeping the tricolour aloft on a foreign land, the national flag is being insulted in our own country, Mr Gulati said in a statement. If disrespect is shown to the tricolour by even the elite, the government must rethink on its decision to permit the common people to hoist the flag, he added.
