DIFFERENT STROKES: Yogesh Nagar of Salwan Boys School (Delhi), scored 103 runs against Frank Anthony Public school (Bangalore) in the Parle Champions Cup at Parsee Gymkhana Pics: Atul KambleA splendid all-round performance by Yogesh Nagar helped champions Salwan Boys (Delhi) register a thumping 132-run victory over Frank Anthony (Bangalore) in the Parle Champions Trophy cricket tournament at Parsee Gymkhana yesterday.
Salwan openers Soumik Chatterjee and Yogesh Nagar made the Frank Anthony side pay heavily for their folly of opting to field. The duos 123-run partnership proved critical. Nagar milked the bowling and scored at will under the relentless sun. He slammed 12 fours and two straight sixes to post the first century of the tournament.
With the duo on fire Salwan looked well on course for the 300-run objective set by coach Sanjay Bharadwaj. But it was not to be as Nagar ended up being run out on 103.
I was doing well and the wicket was perfect for batting. I wanted to reach 150 but the only mistake I made cost me my wicket. I was looking at the fielder and did not hear my partners call, he admitted.
Later, some spot-on off-spin bowling by Yusuf Jamali and captain Daniel Liao restricted Frank Anthony to 272. Jamali picked up four for 48 runs while Liao and Rohit Saini claimed three apiece.
The opening partnership was a little more than what we had bargained for, said Liao. Chasing 273 was always going to be difficult.
Nagars smile said it all. I am happy with my performance. I dedicate my man-of-the-match award to my team, he said.
