Ignorance is not always bliss, as 29-year-old Shekhar Jha, creative director, Ogilvy and Mather, Mumbai, found out yesterday. Jha, who was travelling to Bangalore by Jet Airways flight 9W 441, was stopped by CISF personnel after the x-ray screening of his luggage showed a .38 caliber cartridge.
In his statement to the police, the ad man who has worked on several ad campaigns, said that he was unaware that carrying a cartridge would land him in trouble.
He said he had the cartridge for years together and it was given to him by somebody in his college group. He did not even remember the name of the person who gave it to him.
Anil Kumar, senior commandant, CISF, said, People should be aware of the law. The list of articles not allowed inside the airport is put at various places at the airports and the air tickets also carry instructions.
A senior official at the O&M Mumbai office said, Its a personal matter. The company is not involved, so no one in the company would like to comment.
After making a preliminary enquiry, the CISF handed over the matter to the airport police station, where a case under Sections 3 and 25 (1) (A) of the Indian Arms Act read with Section 161 of the Indian Airport Act was recorded.
Jha was arrested and subsequently released on bail yesterday.
Last night, Jha seemed relieved but refused to comment on the case, saying he first wanted to speak to his lawyer. The 84 items on the banned list
